Three-Gallon Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Jug, Edgefield District, SC, mid 19th century, rotund jug with small, semi-squared spout, the surface covered in a streaky, light-olive alkaline glaze. Shoulder impressed with an asterisk within a circle and incised with a script "3" for three gallons. Spout with two chips and some in-the-firing fissures. Hairline through handle. Base with a 2 3/4" in-the-firing base flake and minor chip. H 14 1/2".
