Large-Sized Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Jar with Iron Slip Decoration, attributed to Thomas Chandler, Edgefield District, SC, circa 1850, ovoid jar with thin, semi-rounded rim and large, arching tab handles, decorated with slip-trailed iron slip drape motifs on the front and reverse and looping lines below each handle, all against a greenish alkaline-glazed ground. A large sealed spider crack from rim on one side. A sealed 9 1/2" crack from rim on one side. A large Y-shaped line across underside, forming a 5" diagonal line and a 1 1/2" line at base. A small base chip and minor base nicks. H 17 1/2".
