Fine Two-Gallon Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Jar with Elaborate Iron Slip Decoration, attributed to the Trapp and Chandler Pottery, Edgefield District, SC, circa 1848-1850, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and arched tab handles, decorated on each side and below the handles with heavy looping line motifs, applied in iron slip over a high-gloss, gray-green ground. Additional iron slip band to shoulder on front and reverse. Very nice condition with a 1 1/2" line in underside, continuing 6 1/2" up side of jar below one handle. H 10 5/8".
