Three-Gallon Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Jug with Incised X and Slash Marks, attributed to David Drake at Lewis Miles's Stony Bluff Manufactory, Edgefield District, SC, circa 1855, rounded jug with finely-tooled spout, the surface covered in a mottled brown alkaline glaze with greenish runs to the reverse. Shoulder incised with an "X," one of Drake's hallmarks, along with three slash marks denoting three gallons. Provenance: Ex-Collection Levon Register; Harmer-Rooker Galleries, New York, NY. Spout chips. A minor chip to base of handle. A minor in-the-firing ping to midsection. A few base chips. H 15".
