×Three-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar, attributed to the Craven Family, Moore or Randolph County, NC, mid 19th century, ovoid jar with coggled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied vertical handles at the shoulder, decorated around the shoulder with straight and wavy cobalt stripes. Stripe decoration to handles and highlights to handle terminals. A crack across underside, extending up one side of jar and curving horizontally above the lower terminal of one handle. This damage includes an additional horizontal crack through the lower handle terminal. In-the-firing contact marks to surface, some of which are slightly recessed. A small base chip. Water glass staining to surface. H 13 3/8".
