Cobalt-Decorated Lidded Stoneware Canning Jar with Cincinnati, OH Advertising, OH origin, circa 1880, small-sized, semi-ovoid jar with tooled shoulder and flared collar, featuring the stenciled advertising, "SNIDER & HOOLE, / CINCINNATI. O." Literature: A printed image of the Snider & Hoole building, located on No. 101 Walnut Street in Cincinnati, is illustrated in the 1875 Kenny's Illustrated Cincinnati, pp. 202-203. This resource states that the firm, established in 1808, are "the most extensive dealers in Book Binders' Materials and Machinery in the Western States (Kenny's Illustrated Cincinnati, pp. 202-203). Includes original salt-glazed lid. Some fry to cobalt. A small base chip and minor in-the-firing base chip. Very minor wear to inner rim for lid. Lid in excellent condition. H (including lid) 6 3/4".
