Extremely Rare Stoneware Jar with Incised Rabbit and Fish Motifs, OH origin, circa 1840, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder and flattened rim, decorated on one side with an incised and cobalt-highlighted design of a leaping rabbit and on the reverse with an incised and cobalt-highlighted design of a fish. Desirable two-sided figural decoration, the rabbit being an extremely rare motif in American incised stoneware. Staining to base area. Jar is slightly out-of-round. An in-the-firing surface chip (contact mark) near base with an approximately 3 1/2" diagonal surface line extending from it, not visible on interior. H 7 3/8".
