Rare Molded "Brook Hill / SOUR MASH" Stoneware Whiskey Decanter with Relief Horse Race Scene, attributed to White's Pottery, Utica, NY, late 19th or early 20th century, Bristol-slip-glazed cylindrical form, with footed base, rectangular bunghole, and tapering neck culminating a flaring, scallop-edged mouth; shoulder decorated with relief design of rearing horses flanking an insignia, inscribed "Brook Hill / HANDMADE / SOUR MASH / CARRAROCO KY." Midsection decorated with an elaborate relief design of a horserace. Base with relief design of a horse and sulky race flanked by horse's heads within horseshoes. Various floral and foliate motifs additionally adorn the vessel from top to bottom. Cobalt highlights throughout. Brook Hill was the flagship brand of whiskey sold by the Paducah, KY firm of Friedman, Keiler & Company. Glass bottles, shot glasses, mini jugs, and at least one advertising sign are also known bearing the Brook Hill name. One scallop on mouth reglued. In-the-firing surface fissures on underside, not visible on interior. H 14 1/2".
