Six-Gallon Stoneware Churn with Cobalt Paddletail Bird Decoration, Stamped "N.A. WHITE & SON, / UTICA, N.Y.," circa 1885, semi-ovoid churn with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a brushed and slip-trailed design of a bird with paddle-shaped tail, perched on a flowering vine. A few chips to inner rim for lid. A 1 1/4" hairline on underside, continuing 5 1/2" up proper left side of churn. A 1 1/2" hairline on underside, continuing 2 1/2" up front. A 4 1/4" Y-shaped line near base on proper left side of churn. Minor traces of old paint to surface. H 18 1/2".
