×Scarce Pair of One-Gallon Stoneware Crocks with Cobalt Bird Decoration, Stamped "F.B. NORTON & CO. / WORCESTER, MASS.," circa 1858-1877, an assembled pair, each of cylindrical form with semi-rounded rim and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a crested bird perched on a scrolled branch. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark. Desirable size. Shorter in excellent condition with areas of staining. Taller with some staining, an in-the-making chip to interior of rim, two in-the-firing iron pings to body, the proper right handle with two small chips, a short crack along its edge, and edge wear, the proper left handle with two small chips, two minor nicks, and edge wear.
