Fine One-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Bird Decoration, Stamped "S.D. KELLOGG / WHATELY," MA origin, circa 1851-1853, cylindrical jug with semi-squared spout, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a spotted bird perched in a scrolled, wreath-like branch. Some fry to cobalt. A 1 1/8" glazed-over, in-the-firing ping to shoulder. A small chip to exterior of spout. Two small, shallow chips to interior of spout. Two small in-the-firing pings near base on reverse. Some staining. A long drip of cobalt to front. H 11 1/2".
