Stoneware Jar with Impressed Decoration, Stamped "WARNE," Thomas Warne, South Amboy, NJ, early 19th century, approximately two-to-three-gallon, ovoid jar with heavily-tooled shoulder and applied lug handles, decorated with an impressed, scallop-edged drape motif, highlighted in iron slip, below the maker's mark of Thomas Warne. Additional iron slip decoration to handle terminals. This jar is one of only a few pieces that we have offered bearing the maker's mark, "WARNE," lacking any other impressed words or abbreviations. Provenance: Crocker Farm, Inc., October 26, 2019, lot 331. Proper left handle restored. A 1 3/4" x 1 1/2" chip to interior of rim, connecting to a shallow, chipped area on front. Additional small rim chips. Some areas of light exfoliation to surface. Some surface crazing, not visible on interior. Extensive chipping around base. H 11 1/8".
