Two Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jars, Alexandria, VA origin, second quarter 19th century, both of ovoid form with arching tab handles, a two-gallon jar with brushed foliate motif on front and floral devices on reverse, stamped at shoulder "H. SMITH & CO," paired with a five-gallon jar with elaborate floral motif on front and floral devices at shoulder on reverse, impressed under one handle, "B.C. MILBURN / ALEXA." Smaller with base reglued including a vertical crack ascending from the break, a 3" reglued section at rim, two rim chips, two cracks from rim (one extending through handle), a small base chip, and a small chip near base. Larger with rim chips, an approximately 5" x 3" professionally-restored section near midsection on reverse, a large in-the-firing base flake, other in-the-firing base chips, and a small in-the-firing surface chip near base on reverse.
