Unusual Glazed Redware Inkstand, Inscribed "John Rodiger / 1855," American or Continental, 1855, slab-built form with pen tray, applied floral and foliate decoration, and carved circular openings to hold a well and sander. Impressed "1855" three times on front. Surface decorated with sponged and brushed manganese against a yellowish ground and covered in a clear lead glaze. Underside incised in script, "John Rodiger / 1855." Includes associated manganese-glazed well and top to one sander, not original to the stand. Small chips to stand. Only top of sander survives; the sander top includes a reglued pieces and flakes to rim. Well with small chips and wear. Dimensions (of stand): 8 1/8" x 5" x 2 3/4".
