Two Pieces of Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware, Northeastern U.S. origin, circa 1870-1880, a three-gallon cylindrical crock with slip-trailed design of a bird perched on a scrolled branch, stamped "W. ROBERTS. BINGHAMTON.N.Y," circa 1870; paired with a one-gallon ovoid pitcher with tooled midsection and semi-squared rim molding, brush-decorated with a leaf on the front. Crock with some fry to cobalt, an 8" crack from rim on proper left side, three chips to interior of rim, a 4 1/4" Y-shaped line on underside, extending 5" up reverse, an in-the-making surface fissure on underside (not visible on interior), a flake below maker's mark, and some light staining. Pitcher with an in-the-firing, glazed over iron ping on reverse, a few short lines to rim, and light staining to surface. H (of pitcher) 10 3/4".
