Rare Four-Gallon Stoneware Water Cooler with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "S.T. BREWER. / HAVANA.," NY State origin, circa 1853-1859, squat-shaped, cylindrical cooler with tooled shoulder, applied lug handles, and semi-rounded rim, the base fashioned with a square bunghole with canted corners, embellished with faux screwheads at the terminals; brush-decorated with a horizontal stem bearing four spotted tulips and bulls-eye-shaped blossoms. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark, capacity mark, handle terminals, and screwheads. The finest example of Brewer's work that we have offered. A diagonal 9" hairline extending from shoulder to base on reverse. A 5" firing crack from rim on interior, visible as a 2" hairline from rim on front. A 3" hairline on underside, continuing 6" up far left side of cooler's front. A minor chip and tiny nick to edge of bunghole. H 11 3/4".
