Two Stoneware Crocks with Cobalt Chicken Decorations, Northeastern origin, circa 1850-1860, a two-gallon cylindrical crock stamped "J. NORTON & CO. / BENNINGTON, VT," circa 1850, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a chicken with spotted tail and heavily-shaded body, pecking kernels of corn from a grassy lawn. Together with a three-gallon cylindrical crock, Albany, NY origin, probably R. O'Connell Pottery, circa 1860, decorated with a large brushed and slip-trailed design of a chicken with heavily-shaded wing and elaborate semi-circular feathers atop a stylized ground. Slip-trailed "3" to shoulder. Norton crock with rim chips, base chip, and heavy damage to reverse and underside including flaking, cracks, and reglued wedge-shaped section at base. Albany crock with 2" x 4" reglued wedge at rim on front, an 8" crack up from base on right side which extends to underside, staining, other minor damage including hairline from rim on right.
