Stoneware Batter Pail with Cobalt Bird Decoration, attributed to the White's Pottery, Utica, NY, circa 1865, ovoid form with applied tubular spout, applied clay tabs at shoulder, and handle at base on reverse, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a crested bird perched on a stylized branch. Missing wood-and-wire bail handle. A 3" diagonal crack from rim on front. A 3" vertical crack from rim on reverse. A 1 1/4" hairline from rim on front. A small rim chip. A minor in-the-firing iron ping on front. Tight lines to underside, one of which extending 1 3/4" up reverse. A salt drip to reverse. Staining to surface. H 9 3/4".
