×Three-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Bird Decoration, Stamped "WEST TROY.NY / POTTERY," circa 1875, ovoid jar with semi-rounded rim and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a long-tailed bird perched on a scrolled branch. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. A tight 9" diagonal crack to shoulder with three shorter cracks extending off from it. A thin 3 3/4" vertical crack to front. Some light staining. In-the-firing fissures around base, not visible on interior. A small chip to interior of rim. A 1" chip and minor nick to proper left handle. A small chip to proper right handle. An in-the-firing iron ping below proper right handle. Two small chips to base on front and some minor exfoliation to base. Minor surface wear to midsection. H 12 1/2".
