Large-Sized Redware Pitcher with Tinwork, Marked "PAT. JUN, 27, 1876, F. SCHIFFERLE, ST. LOUIS, MO," circa 1876, semi-ovoid pitcher with flared collar, the exterior coated in a lead-and-manganese glaze, the interior coated with cream-colored slip under a clear lead glaze. Includes original tin banding, handle, and lid, the lower band marked with Fridolin Schifferle maker's mark. One of the "Culinary Vessels" Fridolin Schifferle, a St. Louis producer of tin and other metal work, patented in 1876, with the ceramic objects being made at unknown potteries for him to fit with tin. The pitcher itself was possibly made at the Bodine pottery in Zanesville, Ohio. Very nice condition with wear to rim and spout. H (including lid) 13".
