Scarce Glazed Redware Cider Mug, American, late 19th century, large-sized, barrel-form mug, incised "Carte / Blanche / Cider." Possibly referencing Benjamin Harrison's U.S. presidential campaign of 1888, the mug may have been made specifically for the Carte Blanche Cider produced in Boston circa 1876 and marketed at least as far away as Philadelphia. (The Smithsonian National Museum of American History holds a trade card advertising the brand.) Surface covered in a lead-and-manganese glaze. Excellent condition with extremely minor wear. H 6 1/4".
