×Very Rare Glazed Redware Inkstand with Removable Well and Sander, Maine origin, second quarter 19th century, slab-built oval inkstand with central spout flanked by two carved openings, fitted with the stand's original cup-shaped well and perforated sander. Surface covered in a mottled lead glaze displaying colorful reddish-orange and pale green hues. The inkstand form is considered rare and desirable from any region of production. The vast majority of redware examples stem from the Pennsylvania-German tradition. Those produced in New England, such as this work, are considered exceptionally rare.
