Very Rare Glazed Redware Inkstand with Removable Well and Sander, Maine origin, second quarter 19th century, slab-built oval inkstand with central spout flanked by two carved openings, fitted with the stand's original cup-shaped well and perforated sander. Surface covered in a mottled lead glaze displaying colorful reddish-orange and pale green hues. The inkstand form is considered rare and desirable from any region of production. The vast majority of redware examples stem from the Pennsylvania-German tradition. Those produced in New England, such as this work, are considered exceptionally rare. Provenance: Crocker Farm, Inc., July 20, 2019, lot 423. One carved opening with a chip and some wear to edge. Other carved opening with wear to edge. Very minor wear to edge of well and sander. L 6 1/2" ; W 4 3/8" ; H 2 5/8".
