Manganese-Decorated Redware Jar, New England origin, early 19th century, ovoid jar with footed base and rounded rim, the lead-glaze surface decorated with heavy application of gunmetal-colored manganese over a mottled orange-to-red ground. An approximately 6" horizontal crack above foot along base, barely visible on interior. This crack includes a second thin crack extending from it across underside and continuing 1/2" up base. A small chip to underside along bottom edge. A minor base chip. Some minor surface crazing to foot, not visible in interior. Light wear to rim. H 5 3/4".
