Manganese-Decorated Redware Bowl, Stamped "JOHN BELL / WAYNESBORO'," PA origin, circa 1850-1880, flaring bowl with Hagerstown-style rim, the lead-glazed interior decorated with diagonal sponging interspersed with diagonally-brushed slashes. Unusual decoration for this maker. Surface wear to interior and some shallow glaze flakes to base area. A thin crack across underside extending 2" up wall of bowl. Diam. 12 3/4" ; H 3 7/8".
