PA.," circa 1880, cylindrical jug with rounded spout and two applied handles at the shoulder, decorated with a large stenciled design of a spread-winged Federal eagle with shield across its chest, arrows in both feet, and banner behind it. R.T. Williams maker's stenciling appears above and below. Freehand flourishes and stripes to shoulder area. Base with freehand "5" flanked by diagonal graduated dashes above a stripe. Desirable decoration and form. Provenance: From a recently-surfaced Illinois collection. Proper right handle restored. Spout wear. Two smooth in-the-firing contact marks to front. Some mottling to surface. H 19 3/4".
