×Very Rare Three-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral and Bird Motif, Stamped "MORTON & SHELDON' / JORDAN.," NY State origin, circa 1840-1845, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder and applied lug handles, brush-decorated with a flowering plant bearing three different blossoms and a small bird perched on the lowest stem. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark, capacity mark, and handle terminals. Scarce maker's mark and excellent decoration. Proper right handle highlighted in cobalt. An approximately 6 1/2" x 6 1/2" inverted Y-shaped crack from rim on reverse. A small rim chip on reverse. A 9 1/4" spider crack from rim on reverse. A 1 3/4" hairline above proper right handle. An approximately 9" x 6 1/2" Y-shaped line to front, descending from shoulder to base. Some wear to proper right handle. Some in-the-making spalling to cobalt. H 12".
