×Five-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Double-Handled Jug, Stenciled "[R.T. WILLI]IAMS, / NEW GENEVA . PA.," circa 1880, semi-ovoid jug with open handles, featuring a large stenciled design of a spread-winged Federal eagle with shield across its chest, clutching arrows in its talons and carrying a banner in its beak. Freehand stripe and foliate devices to shoulder. Base with cobalt-script "5" flanked by dashes, underscored by a stripe. Cobalt highlights to upper handle terminals. Very nice condition. Some light wear to spout. A chip to proper left handle. A 7/8" glazed-over line to lower terminal of proper right handle. Minor surface wear. Most of the name, "R.T. WILLIAMS.," is missing. H 20".
