Rare Stoneware Spaniel Doorstop with Two-Color Slip Decoration, attributed to the Donaghho Pottery, Parkersburg, WV, circa 1890, molded figure of a spaniel seated atop a rectangular base with canted corners, the surface covered in Bristol slip and decorated throughout the dog with brushed daubs and highlights in Albany and cobalt slip. Base decorated with Albany slip slashes. Incised details to face and paws. Relatively few spaniels from this pottery, West Virginia's most famous stoneware producer, are known. Excellent, essentially as-made condition with some in-the-firing fissures and glaze lines. H 9".
