×Four-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar, Stenciled "HAMILTON & JONES / GREENSBORO, PA", circa 1875, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with stenciled rose motifs surrounding semi-circular Hamilton & Jones maker's stenciling with triangular motif at center. Shoulder and base with freehand stripes. Base with freehand "4" flanked by dashes. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. A 1 1/4" flake and minor chip to one handle. Opposite handle with shallow chips. Some water glass staining to surface. A tight cross-shaped line on underside, extending up to midsection of jar on reverse. Some traces of old paint to one side.
