Very Rare Tanware Pitcher with Sgraffito "1889" Date, New Geneva or Greensboro, PA origin, 1889, stylishly-potted pitcher with angular moldings to midsection and tall, flaring collar, the body dipped in Albany slip and incised in a sgraffito style with the date, "1889.," surrounded by flourishes. Dot-and-dash decoration above and slash decoration to molding at base of collar. Drape motifs to rim. Desirable inclusion of a date and unusual treatment. Excellent, essentially as-made condition.
