Four-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Freehand Cobalt Decoration, attributed to A.P. Donaghho, Fredericktown, PA, circa 1865, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, ribbed lug handles, and incised banding to midsection, decorated on the upper body with freehand vining between freehand stripes and below with a freehand "4" flanked by dashes, underscored by a stripe. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Impressed "4" on reverse. Excellent condition with a small in-the-firing contact mark to right side and two minor in-the-firing iron pings to underside. Rim is slightly out-of-round. H 14".
