Fine Twelve-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar, Stenciled "R.T. WILLIAMS. / NEW GENEVA, PA.," circa 1880, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with freehand stripes and vining to the upper body. Further decorated below with R.T. Williams maker's stenciling flanked by tulips and surrounding a stenciled flourish at the midsection. Base decorated with a freehand "12" flanked by dashes between two wavy stripes at the base. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Excellent condition with some wear to cobalt along wavy stripe near base, portion of cobalt on freehand "12" missing, two long, narrow in-the-firing flaws to surface on reverse, some minor surface wear, and a minuscule nick to front end of proper right handle.
