Outstanding Sixteen-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar with Stenciled Rose Motif, Stenciled "James Hamilton & Co. / Greensboro, PA.," circa 1875, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, profusely-decorated with a stenciled rose motif flanking and underscoring James Hamilton maker's stenciling, a stylized stenciled sunburst motif, and bold-faced stenciled "16." Freehand stripes below rim. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Provenance: Purchased by the consignor from the private collection of the Warman family of Uniontown, PA in December 1996. Very nice condition with some surface wear to reverse, minor surface wear to front, and light exfoliation to underside. H 22".
