Fine Twelve-Gallon Stoneware Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar with Stenciled Eagle Motif, Stenciled "T.F. REPPERT / EAGLE POTTERY / GREENSBORO, PA.," circa 1880, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a large stenciled design of a spread-winged Federal eagle with shield across its chest and arrows carried in both feet, below a series of stars. Design is surrounded by curved T.F. Reppert "EAGLE POTTERY" stenciling along with stenciled flourishes. Freehand stripe decoration to shoulder and base. Base with freehand "12" flanked by flourishes. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Desirable size and iconic regional eagle stenciling. Provenance: Purchased by the consignor at auction in August of 1991. Excellent, essentially as-made condition. H 22".
