×One-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "B.C. MILBURN / ALEXA," Alexandria, VA origin, circa 1850, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and arched tab handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a split-stem flowering plant. Reverse with chain link motif underscored by two rows of wavy lines. Spot decoration completely around base of rim. Provenance: From a forty-five-year VA collection. An in-the-making flake to far left side of jar's front. An in-the-firing contact mark to shoulder on reverse. A 1 1/4" flake and small chip to proper left handle. Minor wear to front terminal of proper right handle. Some shallow chipping around bottom edge, part of which occurred in the firing. H 10 1/4".
