One-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "H. SMITH & CO.," Alexandria, VA origin, circa 1825, ovoid jar with footed base, tooled shoulder, arched tab handles, and semi-rounded rim, brush-decorated with a horizontal flowering stem on the front and four horizontal floral devices at the shoulder on the reverse. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Two base chips. A chip to front end of proper right handle. An in-the-firing chip to proper left handle. A few in-the-firing contact marks to surface. A small in-the-firing ping at base. H 8 1/2".
