Fine Three-Gallon Stoneware Pitcher with Elaborate Cobalt Floral Decoration, Baltimore, MD origin, circa 1830, ovoid pitcher with short, flaring collar accented with tooled lines, brush-decorated around the body with a leafy stem bearing long, fern-like blossoms. Swag decoration above and flanking the spout. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Desirable form, size, decoration, and color. A long, shallow in-the-firing flake to top of rim. An approximately 5 1/2" crack on underside, continuing 11 1/2" up front. Minor chipping to bottom edge, most or all of which occurred in the firing. Large amount of mortar on interior base. H 15 1/4".
