Scarce Two-Gallon Stoneware Cake Crock with Southbridge, MA Advertising and Cobalt Dove Decoration, attributed to F.B. Norton, Worcester, MA, circa 1858-1877, wide, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a dove-on-branch with leaf above. Impressed above with the cobalt-highlighted advertising, "P.H. CARPENTER & CO. / SOUTHBRIDGE MASS." In-the-firing losses to cobalt. Otherwise excellent condition. H 7 1/4" ; Diam. 11".
