Rare Albany-Slip-Glazed Stoneware Figure of a Bear, PA or Ohio origin, second half 19th century, hand-modeled figure of a standing bear on oblong base, the figure with hand-incised fur, paws, and facial features, the base with impressed floral motifs. The surface glaze in reddish-brown Albany slip over whitish clay. Figure originally had a rider applied to its back. Areas where the rider was attached are filled and colored. Restoration to ears. Figure is reglued to base. Some light wear to muzzle and minor spot of wear to forehead. Dimensions: L 8 1/2" ; W 3 1/2" ; H 4 1/8".
