Scarce Pair of Slip-Decorated Redware Spaniels, PA origin, 19th century, pair of slip-cast seated spaniels, decorated throughout with yellow and manganese slip spots and highlights to face, ears, collar, and locket, all under a clear lead glaze. A related spaniel is illustrated in the 1993 poster, "REDWARE: BIRDS AND BEASTS," by Richard Flanders Smith. One spaniel with a 1" chip along bottom edge, possibly in-the-making, as well as two minor chips to bottom edge, a very glaze flake to one foot, and glaze flake to nose. Other spaniel with a minor glaze flake to bottom edge, small glaze flakes to proper right ear, a small glaze flake to back, and very minor flecks of glaze loss to base. H (of each) 7".
