Exceedingly Rare Redware Serving Dish with Two-Color Slip Decoration, PA origin, second quarter 19th century, wheel-thrown dish with rounded walls attached to a wheel-thrown pedestal base, decorated throughout the top of the dish with curved trails of copper and yellow slip surrounded by a wavy trail of copper slip. Underside of dish remarkably includes additional profuse decoration in the form of copper and yellow slip spots and wavy lines. Additional spot and line decoration to base. This work is the first American redware example of this form that we have ever offered. Its extreme rarity is complemented by high decorative appeal in its extravagant slip treatment. A related onion planter with pedestal base resides in the collection of the Philadelphia Museum of Art. A 1" flake to interior and other smaller flakes.
