×Fine One-Gallon Stoneware Pitcher with Profuse Cobalt Floral Decoration, Strasburg, VA origin, circa 1880, ovoid pitcher with flared base, decorated around the body with six unusual hanging floral motifs. Collar decorated on each side with the same design running horizontally. Entire front of spout, including a small area below, highlighted in a rounded column of cobalt slip. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Among the most-heavily-decorated Strasburg pitchers that we have seen. Spout chips. A 1 1/2" rim chip on reverse. Chips to bottom edge. A Y-shaped crack across underside, forming a 4" Y-shaped crack at base on front. Some staining to surface. An in-the-firing ping to base of spout. H 11 3/8".
