×Scarce Three-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "A. KEISTER & .CO / STRASBURG. VA." circa 1850, ovoid jar with tall collar and ribbed lug handles, decorated on the front and reverse with a boldly-brushed design of three open-centered tulips emanating from a leafy stem. Brushed "3" under one handle. Impressed under opposing handle with Adam Keister maker's mark below a raised-face three-gallon capacity. Provenance: From a forty-five-year VA collection. Very nice condition. A small rim chip. Some in-the-firing clay residue to rim and bottom edge of jar. A tiny in-the-firing base chip. An in-the-firing 3 3/4" surface fissure to underside, not visible on interior. A tiny chip to one handle. A spot of staining. H 12 3/4".
