×Four-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Bird on Stump Decoration, Stamped "COWDEN & WILCOX/ HARRISBURG, PA," circa 1865, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, brush-decorated with a large bird featuring a spotted wing and swags along the tail, perched on a tree stump. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Two cracks from rim on front, measuring 10 3/4" and 5". Two cracks from rim on reverse, measuring 5" and 2 3/4". A small chip to proper right handle. Old wire and twine around rim. H 10 1/2".
