Four-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "COWDEN & WILCOX. / HARRISBURG, PA," circa 1865, ovoid jug with tooled shoulder and semi-squared spout, brush-decorated with an unusual cross-shaped floral design featuring carrot-shaped blossoms extending from a leafy stem. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and handle terminals. Appealing decoration featuring desirable size and superb color. Excellent condition with some staining, some in-the-firing pings and contact marks, and a salt drip to proper right side. H 17".
