Rare and Fine Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Grapes Decoration, Stamped "SIPE, NICHOLS & CO. / Williamsport, Pa.," circa 1875, ovoid jug with semi-squared spout, brush-decorated with a cluster of fifteen grapes hanging from a leafy stem. Cobalt accents to handle terminals. Among the better examples of Williamsport stoneware that we have offered, significantly rarer than the more-well-known grapes-decorated pieces produced in Harrisburg. Very nice condition with a diagonal 3 1/2" line at base on reverse, a small glazed-over base chip, and some light staining. H 14".
