Three-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "J.W. COWDEN / HARRISBURG .PA," circa 1861-1865, ovoid jug with tapered spout, brush-decorated with a large flowering plant motif featuring a central blossom composed of a series of conjoined swags, flanked by two stems with buds. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark, capacity mark, and handle terminals. Excellent condition with a 1 1/4" line from spout on reverse, minor glazed-over chipping to spout, a minor in-the-firing ping to underside, and some light staining. H 16 1/2".
