Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Spittoon, Stamped "COWDEN & WILCOX / HARRISBURG . PA," circa 1865, cylindrical form with footed base, carved oval opening at shoulder, and recessed circular opening in top, brush-decorated around the body with ten foliate devices. Wreath-like brushwork below opening at shoulder. Cobalt highlight to maker's mark. Base chips. Two small chips to opening in top. A 3" horizontal Y-shaped crack top edge. Minor chips to top edge. Diam. 7 7/8" ; H 4".
