Exceptional Four-Gallon Stoneware Advertising Crock with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "EVAN R JONES / PITTSTON PA.," circa 1875, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, featuring the slip-trailed advertising, "Taylor Bros. / Maine Broom. Co. N.Y.," above a large brushed design of a graduated flower blossom hanging from a leafy stem. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark. A 7 1/2" crack from rim on reverse. A 4 1/2" diagonal crack from rim on reverse. A chip and minor nick to proper right handle. Two minor nicks to proper left handle. Long, in-the-firing surface lines to base area, not visible on interior. Some light staining. H 11 3/8".
