Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "J.W. COWDEN / HARRISBURG PA," circa 1861-1865, ovoid jug with semi-rounded spout, decorated with a large central blossom with spiraling petals flanked by smaller tulips. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark, capacity mark, and handle terminals. A tight semi-circular crack on underside forming a 7" vertical line ascending base on front. Staining to surface. A salt drip to front and shoulder on reverse. Short, in-the-firing surface fissures to base, which are glazed over. Staining to surface. H 14 3/4".
